introductions

An rf sig gen with modulation capabilities is to be designed and implemented. A PCB is to be designed and implemented
1. with low cost; &
2. in small dimensions.

Features:
  1. DC- 50MHz baseband adjustable output frequency range
  2. 0V - 3V amplitude control
  3. phase shifting
  4. frequency/amplitude/phase agile ouput
  5. PSK,QPSK,BPSK,FSK,BFSK,ASK modulation
  6. FM,AM,PM modulation
  7. DC-1MHz I/Q analog input frequency range
  8. 50ohm inputs
  9. 50ohm output
  10. 0V-3V analog input amplitude range (?)
  11. 16 bit I/Q paired digital input
  12. USB 2.0 compatible
  13. power down mode
  14. windows software
  15. can work independent of a PC.
This blog will serve as a log book for this project.

project start date: 03.08.2006
expected end date: no later than 03.04.2007

Project Status: incomplete
Work done as yet:

a block diagram has been completed.


The FPGA and the ucontroller both has been used for mere diversity. (as opposed to an fpga-only implementation)!!

  1. FT245RL - future devices inc. usb-fifo conversion chip
  2. Z8F1622 - zilog Z8 encore! ucontroller with 46 I/O
  3. AD9958 - analog devices high speed 500MSPS dds chip with 2 synchronized dds cores
  4. RF2420 - radio frequency and micro devices 5 bit programmable attenuator
  5. AD8361 - analog devices differential gain block with p1dB of 26 dBm
  6. AD7655 - analog devices 4 channel ADC with 1MSPS throughput
That sums up almost everything that has been done yet.
